The District of Chetwynd completed the construction of a spray park in the summer of 2022, thanks in part to a $30,000 Community Places grant from Northern Development. The outdoor water park is located behind the Chetwynd and Area Recreation Centre and serves as a great addition to the facility.
Water parks provide a barrier free, outdoor recreation option for families during summer months at no cost and support healthy, active lifestyles for residents. The addition of a spray park was identified as a priority for the community during a 2016 public engagement exercise for the recreation centre.
“We truly appreciate the funding assistance that we received from Northern Development for the Chetwynd outdoor spray park,” said District of Chetwynd Mayor Courtoreille. “This free-to-use community amenity has proven to be an extremely popular gathering place for all residents and also offers respite during extreme heat events.”
Northern Development also provided a $15,528 Community Places grant for the outdoor restroom which sits adjacent to the spray park.
