Fraser Lake Airport upgrades will boost industry and tourism investment in B.C.’s central interior

Fraser Lake, B.C. – Northern Development Initiative Trust’s board of directors has approved a $171,394 grant to support upgrades to Fraser Lake’s airport, which will position the community to better capitalize on nearby resource industry and tourism opportunities. Northern Development and UNBC internship programs are training recent graduates for rewarding careers in northern B.C.

In only five years, Northern Development Initiative Trust’s internship programs have generated rewarding careers for two-dozen recent University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) graduates. Small Town Love pilot program a big success in six B.C. communities

Central and northern B.C. – Small Town Love has been officially unveiled with roaring success in six communities across the region. In July, Northern Development Initiative Trust partnered with the District of Logan Lake, the District of Fort St. James, the District of 100 Mile House, the District of Vanderhoof, the Village of Valemount and the Village of Burns Lake to deliver a unique marketing campaign that celebrates locally-owned independent businesses with an aim to strengthen their competitiveness and keep more dollars in the local economy.

Northern Development approves $244,000 for major Quesnel Airport expansion

Quesnel, B.C. – Northern Development Initiative Trust’s board of directors has approved a $244,815 grant to support a major apron expansion at the City of Quesnel’s airport. The current apron is 52,500 square feet and is one of the smallest certified airport aprons in B.C., which means it cannot accommodate multiple aircraft effectively. The city plans to expand the apron by an additional 22,500 square feet (a 42% increase in size), which will provide access to a new multi-use hangar.

Northern Development approves $250,000 for North Peace Regional Airport parking upgrades

Fort St. John, B.C. – Northern Development Initiative Trust’s board of directors have approved a $250,000 grant to support significant parking lot upgrades at the North Peace Regional Airport. Higher demand at the airport in recent months, as well as the start of WestJet flights in the area, has pushed the parking lot beyond its current capacity.
