Visit Bulkley-Nechako nets new visitors to northern B.C.

In 2013, Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako received a $9,016 grant from Northern Development through the Marketing Initiatives program towards this $53,585 project. This has been a funding partnership of Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako and Northern Development

Biking, hiking and fishing – oh my! The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako has ramped up its marketing efforts to attract more tourists to one of B.C.’s most picturesque regions.
In partnership with B.C.’s tourism industry, the regional district developed a marketing initiative in 2013 to step up regional promotion. The main drive of the campaign was to ensure that all separate marketing initiatives could be combined under one recognizable banner, which would translate into more visitors and increased regional tourism revenue. Bulkley Nechako is known for amazing mountain biking in Burns Lake and Smithers, hiking trails along the Yellowhead corridor and some of the best fly-fishing in the world on the Morice and Bulkley Rivers. The program was designed to promote activities that the summer and all-season tourist market would be interested in, showcasing the year-round attractions available in the region.

Northern Development Initiative Trust supported the campaign with a $9,016 grant from its Marketing Initiatives Program to help get the project running. The campaign included regional tourism brochures, ramping up the region’s online presence, trade show appearances, developing a comprehensive photo bank and hiring a tourism marketing coordinator to run the project.

Marketing Initiatives

The Marketing Initiative program provides funding to support new marketing campaigns or projects that position a community or region to take advantage of opportunities that support economic vitality and diversification. These marketing projects must be new initiatives that stand alone from existing marketing activities.
