100 Mile House Restores and Modernizes Historic Martin Exeter Hall

In 2007, District of 100 Mile House received a $24,135 grant from Northern Development through the Community Halls and Recreation Facilities program towards this $80,450 project. This has been a funding partnership of South Cariboo Visitor Centre, Northern Development, and Towns for Tomorrow

2012- In the 1930’s, the Martin Exeter Hall was built in 100 Mile House as a roadhouse which catered to the original gold rush seekers. The historic 100 Mile House Lodge and Conference Centre property was donated to the municipality in 2006.

The ageing hall and lodge facilities have been upgraded to modern standards, including building repairs, parking lot improvements, and interpretive display materials.

Now, the hall is a graciously appointed lecture and performance venue. This hall features an open foyer and bench-style theatre seating for up to 275 people facing a 478 square-foot stage. The hall is used for various events from the performing arts to weddings, memorials, concerts, dinners, auctions, and other community events.

The upgrades to both it and to Martin Exeter Hall, named after Lord Martin Exeter, a founding member of our community, will be a great benefit to our community, preserving a vital piece of our history.
