South Cariboo Recreation Centre In 100 Mile House Undergoes 'Wood First' Facility Improvements

In 2005, Cariboo Regional District received a $187,500 grant and a $62,500 loan from Northern Development through the Community Halls and Recreation Facilities program towards this $371,740 project. This has been a funding partnership of Cariboo Regional District and Northern Development

2012- The Cariboo Regional District invested in a series of Wood First facility improvements to the South Cariboo Recreation Centre in 2005.

These improvements included the installation of a dry floor, purchase of tables and chairs for event hosting, installation of an audio-visual projection system, and the purchase of a forklift. Other components under this phase of the multi-year project included a new storage shed, fencing, geothermal extension, water softener, ball park fencing and completion of the building’s impressive log façade.

These upgrades have given the centre the capacity needed to host more events such as concerts, trade-shows and conferences by adding the capability to convert the complex to an all-season facility with the dry floor, extending the available seasonal time periods for hosting these events in 100 Mile House.

Positive Economic Impacts in 100 Mile House

This project has provided 100 Mile House with a venue to host various events including the Northern BC Winter Games, as well as being a 2010 Olympics Live Site throughout the Vancouver Winter Olympics. The South Cariboo Recreation Centre Improvements have also increased employment at the centre due to its capability to be utilized for a wider variety of functions and for a longer operating duration throughout the year.
