Northern Development photo contest winner announced!

June 18, 2013

Cameron Orr of Kitimat, B.C. has won Northern Development’s photo contest, following dozens of submissions from photographers across northern B.C. The photo featured Cameron’s son James, eight months old at the time of the photo, enjoying his first swim at Kitimat’s Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre.

The contest required photographers to submit a photo of someone making use of a project that Northern Development helped fund. In 2007, the Trust provided a $30,000 grant and a $1.6 million loan to the District of Kitimat toward a $15 million renovation of the aquatic centre. The project was funded through Northern Development’s Community Halls and Recreation Facilities program, which provides funding to municipalities, regional districts, First Nations bands and registered non-profit organizations to improve or expand existing facilities to increase the number of events held annually in the community.

The aquatic centre renovation included a new family change room, a redesigned office area, a new steam room, a new storage area, a new leisure pool, a new kids pool, new water park toys, a new lazy river, a new water slide and a redesigned viewing area.

Cameron and James were awarded a brand new Apple iPad for their winning photo – congratulations to them and to all others who submitted photos for working together to build a stronger north!
