Regional investment portal developed in partnership with northwest communities scores big at Northern B.C. Business and Technology Awards gala
Prince George – A web portal designed to attract global investment to northwest B.C. won major accolades at the annual Northern B.C. Business and Technology awards gala in Prince George January 9.
Invest in Northwest BC, a regional investment website developed in partnership with communities throughout northwest B.C., earned two nominations at the event and took home the ‘Technology Provider of the Year’ award. The site was also nominated in the ‘Technology and Industry Newsmaker of the Year’ award category. The website, which Northern Development Initiative Trust spearheaded on behalf of northwest communities, was launched last spring to wide acclaim from the business community throughout the province. Since then, it has promoted investment opportunities in municipalities such as Prince Rupert, Terrace, Kitimat, Queen Charlotte and others, and helped connect potential investors with economic development officers throughout the region.
The website, which was designed by Prince George’s Concept Design and Sticky Wicket Designs, was the first of its kind in the province, and used state-of-the-art technology to host complex information that potential investors could use to make informed business decisions. The website also integrated social media applications, and is continually updated to provide the latest business information to maximize opportunities for the region.
“This award is a testament to the efforts of talented economic development staff across the region, bright dedicated economic development interns from the University of Northern British Columbia and the great teams at Northern Development, Concept Design and Sticky Wicket Design,” said Janine North, CEO, Northern Development initiative Trust.
Pat Bell, MLA for Prince George-Mackenzie and Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training, and Shirley Bond, MLA for Prince George-Valemount and Minister of Justice and Attorney General of B.C., hosted the awards gala, which was part of the 10th annual B.C. Natural Resource Forum held at the Civic Centre in downtown Prince George. The Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of B.C. sponsored the Technology Provider of the Year award.
Since the development of Invest in Northwest BC, Northern Development has helped launch two more regional investment portals. Those portals, Invest in Northeast BC and Invest in North Central BC will be followed up this month with a fourth and final investment portal that will feature the amazing investment opportunities in the Cariboo-Chilcotin region.
