108 Mile Hall Renovations Help Sustain Regional Tourism For Events Such As The Square Dance Jamboree

In 2008, 108 Mile Ranch Community Association received a $4,209 grant from Northern Development through the Community Halls and Recreation Facilities program towards this $12,727 project. This has been a funding partnership of 108 Mile Ranch Community Association and Northern Development

2012- Members of many different community groups in 108 Mile Ranch are now holding their events in a newly renovated community centre. After 20 years as a hub of activity  in 108 Mile House, the 108 Mile Ranch Community Centre has been upgraded with a number of improvements that will benefit community events for years to come.

The community hall has been an important part of 108 Mile House for over two decades, as a majority of clubs and groups rely on the facility for meetings and workshops. Community residents gather at the hall for wedding parties, bingo nights, and many different social events and fundraisers which benefit the local service sector by generating revenues including catering and hotel stays.

In the spring of 2010, the hall hosted a ‘Square Dance Jamboree’, attracting visitors from all around North America for three days of spirited dancing and socializing.

Positive Economic Impacts in 108 Mile Ranch

The improvements made by the 108 Mile Ranch Community Association are sustaining and helping to increase the amounts of visitors to the Cariboo region. With two churches nearby, the hall is now the perfect venue for wedding parties which helps ensure these events are locally held in the 108 Mile area.

Even through challenging economic times, the community association has seen an increase in bookings of approximately five per cent. The community association has organized an annual local business fair, where home-based and small business owners advertise and sell their products and services. In the first year, about 20 participants set up booths to showcase their small and home-based businesses to the community.
