Part Of Fort St. John For Over 90 Years, The Legion Undertakes Major Repairs and Upgrades

In 2010, Royal Canadian Legion-Branch 102 (Fort St. John) received a $30,000 grant from Northern Development through the Community Halls and Recreation Facilities program towards this $144,000 project. This has been a funding partnership of Royal Canadian Legion - Branch 102 (Fort St. John), Northern Development, Farm Credit Canada, and Local Businesses

2012-The Royal Canadian Legion has been a part of Fort St. John for almost ninety years and is an organization that supports veterans and the community at large. The Fort St. John Legion provides a meeting place for the Ladies Auxillary, the local cadets, Lions Club, Kin Club, Elks and the Order of the Royal Purple. It is also home to the Stock Car Club, Snowmobile Club, Dart Club, Pool Club, North Pine Fair, Crib Club, Drag Race Club and the Oil Wives.

The Legion is one of the few available halls remaining in Fort St. John that can be rented by the public for functions. Northern Development provided funding support for repairs and upgrades to the hall, which had experienced significant water damage due to a leaking roof. The repair and upgrade project ensured that the Legion would remain available for use by the public.

"I lease the kitchen from Branch # 102 and do all the Branch catering. With the roof upgrade I am able to book the hall and banquets without fear of having to cancel functions. The increased revenue will help the Branch meet their commitments to the community."

Positive Economic Impacts in Fort St. John

The Legion is home to a priceless collection of war memorabilia that is of great interest to veterans, the general public and school tours. Now that the roof has been upgraded, the branch no longer has to worry that it will be lost to water damage. The upgrade has also ensured that the hall will be sustainable for many years to come. Without the Legion, many community groups would not have a meeting space to hold their weekly, monthly, and annual events. By being proactive, the Legion was able to prevent any increased damages from occuring.
