Through the Community Halls and Recreation Facilities program, The Trust granted $30,000 to the Wells Snowmobile Club to improve on an existing trail with the construction of the Blair Street Bridge.

The bridge serves as the main entrance to a large snowmobile trail network in the Wells area and is the entry point to the Gold Rush Snowmobile Trail. The Gold Rush Snowmobile Trail is located in south-central British Columbia, extending from the Village of Clinton to the District of Wells. It is approximately 463 kilometres in length incorporating the communities of 70 Mile House, 100 Mile House, Horsefly and Likely.

This project also facilitates safe crossing for all users across the Willow River. The Blair Street bridge replaced two pre-existing bridges, one of which was in severe disrepair. Improving accessibility to this network brings in tourists for outdoor activities in every season.

Funds approved through Northern Development’s Economic Diversification Infrastructure program will transform the Lillooet Municipal Airport into a long-term asset that will generate benefits for the local economy.

Northern Development’s Economic Diversification Infrastructure program has previously been used to fund airport upgrades in Masset, Terrace, Prince Rupert, Burns Lake, Fort St. John, Prince George, Dawson Creek, Quesnel, Anahim Lake and elsewhere.

Northern Development has funded our 2,000th project! The 2016 Gold Country Geocache event was granted $2,500 through the Fabulous Festivals and Events program.

This event will run from September 2-5. New Geocachers are invited to familiarize themselves with the Gold Country geotour. The Gold Country geotour hosts 144 geocache sites through the area that highlights places of significance, including historical sites, geological wonders and tourist spots of interest.

Participants of the event will be encouraged to visit small communities including Lillooet, Clinton, Loon Lake and Cache Creek.

Tumbler Ridge and Hudson’s Hope have accessed The Trust’s Community Halls and Recreation Facilities program for their Community Centre and Arena respectively. Both communities were granted $30,000 to upgrade their facilities.

The pre-existing lighting system in the Tumbler Ridge Community Centre is a 33-year-old florescent system that no longer met the requirements for the facility. This upgrade assisted with the maintaining of our Community Centre, which is the hub of activity for the community. Currently the facility is well used by organizations including their Arts Council, Library and Youth Centre for an array of activities ranging from Craft Fairs and Mass Registration nights to weddings and concerts.

The District of Hudson’s Hope pre-existing Zambonis were purchased in 1980 and 1990 respectively and both were in need of replacement. The District applied to Northern Development for funding to support the purchase of an ice re-surfacer for the maintenance of the arena ice surface.

Facilities such as community centres and arenas is are integral to any small community. They are the places that bring people together in the dead of winter and the brighter summer months to celebrate what it means to be a community. By upgrading their facilities, Tumbler Ridge and Hudson’s Hope can carry a proud legacy of home-town pride into the future.

We are proud to introduce our two new board members, Margo Wagner and Mark Rogers. Wagner has been with the Cariboo Regional District (CRD) since 2011. Rogers has served as a Councillor with the City of Dawson Creek since 2015.

We would like to thank Mayor Mitch Campsall and Mayor Bill Streeper for their time and service to the Board of Directors. All the best to both of you in your endeavours.
