Evan Saugstad, Chair

Evan Saugstad is currently serving his third term as Mayor of the District of Chetwynd. When not busy with community politics, he works as a Community Coordinator with Spectra Energy in the South Peace. He has lived and worked in three of the four geographic areas of the Northern Development Initiative Trust; Bella Coola (born and raised), Prince Rupert, Atlin and Chetwynd.

After spending eleven years in various Yukon communities, he moved to Chetwynd in 1994 where he currently resides. Evan currently Chairs the Northern Development Initiative Trust's Northeast Regional Advisory Committee, the South Peace Economic Development Commission, and the Chetwynd and Area Economic Development Commission.  Evan is a Director of the Peace River Regional District and serves as Chair on the Northern Development Initiative Trust Board of Directors.

Life work experiences have included forestry planning and engineering, heavy equipment operator, pulp mill worker, air attack officer for forest fires, Federal water lands and forest inspector, trapper, professional big game and fishing guide and community consultation specialist.

Lita Powell, Vice Chair

Lita Powell is a Taylor resident and is the President of Li-Car Management Goup, which provides property and strata management services throughout BC. Ms. Powell also teaches several courses at the Northern Lights College and has been a member of the BC Small Business Roundtable.

Ms. Powell is a member of the Finance Committee, the Executive Committee and currently serves as Vice Chair on the Northern Development Initiative Trust Board of Directors.

Michael Tarr

Michael Tarr, Finance Committee Chair

Michael Tarr is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Savings Credit Union. Previously, he was a School Principal in School District 52. Mr. Tarr is a Director and former Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Canadian Cooperative Agricultural Finance Co. Ltd., former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ridley Terminals Incorporated, and former Director and Vice Chairman of the Prince Rupert Port Corporation. In the community, he has served as a Director of the Prince Rupert Airport Society, Prince Rupert Economic Commission, and the Prince Rupert Library Board. Mr. Tarr holds his Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia and his Master of Education from the University of Victoria.

Mr. Tarr serves as the Chair of the Finance Committee of the Northern Development Board.

Ted Armstrong

Ted Armstrong first participated on the Cariboo Regional District Board as an Alternate Director in 1977 for one year. He was then elected Director for Electoral Area A (south Quesnel area) in the general elections of 1978 and has served successive terms since that time. He is currently the Cariboo Regional District’s Vice-Chair and Chair of the Treaty Advisory Committee.

Vice-Chair Armstrong has been a member of most of the Board’s Commissions and Committees. In 1988, he was elected Vice-Chair of the Board and in 1993, he was first elected Chair of the Board, a position he held for eight consecutive years, until 2000 inclusively. No other Board member since the Regional District’s incorporation in 1968, holds that distinction. After focusing his efforts as Area Director from 2001 to 2002, he was re-elected as Chair in 2003.

Director Armstrong and his wife Doreen have two grown children and four grandchildren.

Mitch Campsall

Mitch Campsall has been a resident and business owner in 100 Mile House for twenty-four years and has served as a Councillor for ten years. Mitch spends as much time as possible with his family and is also involved and supports many aspects of his community. He spent many years on the 100 Mile House Lions Club Board and has participated and supported many other charities and organizations in our community.

Mitch is a past member of the 100 Mile House Fire Department and past President of the South Cariboo Fire Fighters Association. While on Council, Mitch held the position of Chair for the Public Works Committee for ten years, was a member of the South Cariboo Recreation Commission for six years and Chair for Community Schools for five years.

 

Lori Ackerman

Lori Ackerman has lived in the Peace Region for over twenty-eight years. She has been a Councillor for the City of Fort St John as well as a Director for the Peace River Regional District since 2005.

Lori joined the Sci-Tech North Team as the Executive Director in July of 2002. Lori's background is in Marketing.

Sci-Tech North is the Science, Technology and Innovation Council in the Northeast region of BC. Under Lori’s management, Sci-Tech North acts as an education and information service, a referral agency, and a venue for research aimed at identifying science innovation and technology opportunities. Their clients are engaged in increasing regional wealth through economic development and diversification of the industries they work in through the use of new technologies. Sci-Tech North supports the process of innovation from discovery to delivery.

Lance Hamblin

Lance Hamblin works as a consultant on a variety of issues using his varied background to bring common sense solutions to today’s complex business environment.

Lance holds a Diploma in Business Administration and has many years experience in a family owned business that involved several facets including wood chip manufacturing, trucking, logging, road construction, cattle ranching and meat processing. Lance is a life time resident of Northern BC and feels the resilience, creativity and optimism of our people will be the determining factors in ensuring successful economic development in Northern BC.

Stephanie Killam

Stephanie Killam has lived in Mackenzie since 1972. She and her husband Donald have raised their two children in the community. Stephanie recently retired as the senior secretary at Mackenzie Secondary School, a position she held since 1979.

Stephanie is committed to the community and the region, promoting initiatives which improve economic, health and educational opportunities. She is well-versed in environmental issues and the balance that is required between those concerns and the economic development of the community’s future.

Politically, she has been a municipal councillor for nine years, elected the Mayor of Mackenzie in November 2005 and re-elected in November 2008. She is a member of a number of municipal and regional organizations and associations. The depth of her involvement in the community is exemplified by the large number of committees on which she sits, most notably in the areas of business, seniors and health.  Mayor Killam serves as Chair of the Northern Development Initiative Trust Prince George Regional Advisory Committee.

Dave Pernarowski

Dave Pernarowski previously sat on Terrace City Council as a Councillor, and was elected as the Mayor of Terrace in November 2008. He also served as President of the Terrace and District Chamber of Commerce. 

Dave attended the University of Manitoba and the Mount Royal College Aviation Program where he earned his commercial pilot’s license.  He also earned his Personal Financial Planning Designation (PFP) from the Institute of Canadian Bankers.

Mayor Pernarowski servces as Chair of the Northern Development Initiative Trust Northwest Regional Advisory Committee.

Fred Punko

Fred Punko is the owner of a public accounting practice. Prior to this, he was a general accountant for Netherlands Overseas Sawmills and Prince George Pulp and Paper. Mr. Punko is a Former President of the Certified General Accountants of BC and a past member of the Certified General Accountants of Canada Board of Governors. He is a Certified Financial Planner, and is the current President of Prince George Toastmasters.

 

Dan Rogers

Dan Rogers was elected as the Mayor of Prince George in November of 2008.

Previous to becoming Mayor, Dan spent four terms on City Council from 1993 to 2005 and among other things is Past President and Life Member of the North Central Municipal Association, a former Director with the Union of BC Municipalities, and the current Chair of the Community Energy Association of BC.

Prior to being elected as Mayor, Dan spent five years as the Director of Marketing & Communications with Concept Design Ltd. and before that he spent fifteen years in the broadcast industry. Aside from his professional career, his passions include family, community and an occasional athletic pursuit. He and his wife Linda have two young daughters.
