Aboriginal Community Planning Grant

Overview
The goal of this grant program is to improve health and well-being in Aboriginal communities by supporting community planning for activities that will increase active transportation through improvements in the built environment. This includes activities such as: conducting community surveys to understand what members need to walk or bike more, or planning improvements of community amenities (i.e., sidewalks, trails, public transit connections, etc.).
Eligibility
BC First Nations and Tribal Councils only.
Partnerships are encouraged, with organizations such as: municipal & local government parks & recreation departments, health authorities & health promotion organizations, schools, service clubs, business & economic development organizations, local, regional & federal governments, or community organizations.
Funding Amounts & Exclusions
Funding Percentages: No matching funds or cost sharing is required.
Minimum/Maximum Funding Amounts: The maximum grant is $5,000.
Eligible Costs include:
- Wages
- Consultant fees
- Conducting workshops/focus groups/surveys/etc. (e.g. printing, room rental, snacks)
- Travel
Ineligible Costs include:
- Physical works & construction (e.g., trail building, sidewalk improvements)
- Program implementation
Project Requirements
Grants are for planning activities only. Planning activities can include but are not limited to: conducting audits, assessments, surveys, and community consultations, creating or updating a transportation plan, creating resources to support active transportation, and coordinating improvements/upgrades to infrastructure/facilities that support active transportation.
Projects must be community-driven: initiated at the community level & based on local priorities.
Projects must be inspiring to others: they support & facilitate broad improvements in local health & well-being, and inspire others to take initiative in doing the same.
Projects must be coordinated: they align with existing & ongoing efforts within the community, and avoid duplicating work that has already been completed or that is currently underway.
Projects must be focused on sustainable results: focus on contributing to better individual and community health & well-being, now and in the future.
