Success to Date

As of Northern Development's January 20th, 2010 Board of Directors meeting:

Northern Development's Board has approved over $95.6 million in project funding
- $27.2 million is committed from the four Regional Development Accounts
- $19.3 million is committed from the Cross Regional Account
- $30 million is committed from the Pine Beetle Recovery Account
  - 60 Pine Beetle Recovery Account projects totalling $19.3 million have resulted in a total project investment of $128.2 million throughout central and northern BC
  - $10.7 million allocated to Northern Industry Expansion Program
- $30 million is committed from the Government of Canada Community Adjustment Fund
These commitments have been leveraged with other sources of funding and investment, for a total project investment value of $897.9 million
The current project leveraging is 1039%, meaning that for every $1.00 of approved funding by the Trust Board, there is $9.39 in funding from other sources
74% of the projects funded by Northern Development are located in small communities with populations of less than 5,000
To date, 55% of funds approved are loans and 45% are grants
17 projects have been approved under Northern Development's Capital Investment and Training Rebate Program. Northern Development's investment of $7.81 million has resulted in 882 jobs being created over the next two years with a total investment of $78.4 million throughout central and northern BC

Economic performance measures for individual project investments such as job creation, new revenues, spending in our local economy, increases to the tax base, new business start-ups, and project-specific measures will be reported for five years by each project and aggregated in our Annual Report.

Northern Development’s Board has approved 489 projects as of January 20th, 2010
across the four development regions. These projects are listed by year and are reported in Annual Approved Project Reports. Please note – these reports include projects that were approved prior to the Board establishing its current policy framework.
